Report a tree, hedge or shrub obstructing the highway
To ensure your report is completed, please read the following information:
What we do | As a highway authority we have a statutory duty to ensure that the highway is kept free from obstruction. This includes dealing with any obstructions caused by overhanging trees or shrubs coming from both council and private land. We will investigate trees and shrubs that are affecting visibility sight lines at junctions. |
What we don't do | We will not investigate trees or hedges that are not obstructing the adopted highway (road or footpath). We will not investigate trees or hedges where they are blocking out sunlight or obstructing the view. |
Our response time | We aim to inspect your report within 10 working days, with more urgent reports being dealt with sooner If there is an imminent risk please call 01912787878 so staff can raise this quickly with the correct teams. |

Important Information
Before submitting a request, please review the information provided. It outlines what services we do and do not offer, along with key considerations. By ticking the confirmation box, you acknowledge that you have read and understood these details. Requests that do not meet the stated criteria may not be processed.
Location Search
You can begin by entering part of an address or postcode. Matching results will appear in a table. If no results are found, you may restart the search. Certain request types allow you to use your device’s location—this feature is only available within the boundary of Newcastle upon Tyne.
Some requests also support location search by ID, such as smart litter bins or traffic signals. If the ID does not return a result, you can search by the nearest address or location and select it from the map.
